Tanguy is a native French instructor and former teacher of French grammar and translation at the University of Birmingham, UK. You will have the opportunity to practice and refine your speaking skills through conversations on small talk and engaging topics, including introducing yourself and others, discussing your daily routine, describing your hobbies, explaining your job and professional tasks, and planning your next holidays.
Practical Everyday Vocabulary
Build your lexicon with specific high-use terms: time phrases (à quelle heure, tout de suite, en retard, dans une semaine), daily life (se lever, être en forme, s’aérer après le travail), restaurant vocabulary (la cuisson, le serveur·euse, commander, demander, régler l’addition), transportation terms (composter, monter vs descendre, se diriger vers), work and professional life (planifier, remettre à plus tard, la réunion, voyage d’affaires), and common connectors (donc, alors, ensuite, d’abord, enfin).
Solid Grammar Foundations
Master essential French structures through practical application: conjugate être and avoir in key tenses (présent, passé composé vs imparfait, futur, conditionnel); use aller + infinitive to express the futur proche; distinguish between tricky grammatical words, including definite and indefinite articles (le/la/les vs un/une/des), partitive articles (du/de la/des), demonstrative adjectives (ce/cet/cette/ces); correctly use and contract prepositions (à+le=au vs à+la=à la vs en); and know the difference between depuis (for ongoing actions and pendant (for a duration).
Clear, Confident Pronunciation
Practice specific sound patterns that trip up English speakers: pronounce tu vs. tout correctly, improve your nasal sounds as in restaurant, un pont, le pain, practice liaison in phrases like vous_/z/_avez, quand_/t/_est-ce que, comment_/t/_allez-vous, and develop the right intonation for positive and negative statements, as well as questions.
Active Listening Development
Through tailor-made listening activities and fill-in-the-blank exercises, you will train your ear to understand fast, natural French speech. These activities are specifically designed to recycle the new vocabulary taught in the theoretical sections. This repetition allows your brain to slowly integrate the new lexicon for long-term retention. Topics will cover a practical spectrum, ranging from personal life to professional work settings.
